๐ฉธ THEY BOMBED THE WITNESSES | Activist Apparel by Unruly Thread
Don't help. Don't film. Don't survive.
Nasser Hospital, Khan Younis. August 25, 2025. The first strike hit at 10:00 AM. Seventeen minutes later, as medics, journalists, and first responders ran toward the rubble, the same building was struck again.
THE STORY
Twenty people died in the second strike. Five were journalists, including Reuters cameraman Hussam al-Masri, Al Jazeera correspondent Mohammed Salama, and AP contractor Mariam Abu Daqqa. The pattern is called a double-tap. It is the war-crime move that maximizes secondary casualties among the people who try to save the ones from the first explosion. The Committee to Protect Journalists has counted more than two hundred and seventy journalists killed in Gaza since October 2023 โ the deadliest period for the profession in any conflict on record.
THE RECEIPT
Bold stencil strokes โ medics pulling a wounded figure from the rubble. Below it, in distressed red lettering: THEY BOMBED THE WITNESSES. Underneath, smaller: (Nasser Hospital, August 25, 2025.) The date is the receipt. The double-tap is the testimony. The shirt is the part that does not get bombed.
WHY THIS MATTERS
When the witnesses die, the testimony goes with them. The first strike is a war. The second strike is a strategy โ designed to make sure no one is alive to describe the first. That is the project this design names.
